PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 24, 2014) – The Rutgers rowing team will race on the Raritan River for the final time this spring, as the Scarlet Knights hit the water against Holy Cross on Sunday, April 27, in New Brunswick, N.J.
Racing will begin at 7:15 a.m. with the Varsity 4 boats and continues at 7:30 a.m. with the First Varsity 8s. The third piece of the morning will feature the Second Varsity 8s at 7:45 a.m., before competition concludes at 8:15 a.m. with the Third Varsity 8 boats.
Following competition, the program will christen the pair/doubles boats the “Busch,” the “Livingston,” the “Cook/Douglass” and the “College Avenue.” The ceremony will begin at 8:45 a.m., as seniors Katie Bakaj (Longport, N.J.), Ashley Cha (Fort Lee, N.J.), Amanda Dothe (Linwood, N.J.), Stephanie Ford (Nutley, N.J.), Avigayil Lieber (Cherry Hill, N.J.), Realyn Louiselle (Tampa, Fla.), Gabrielle Oliviera (Long Island City, N.Y.), Andrea Samuelewski (Colonia, N.J.), Jenelle Scheffler (Basking Ridge,N.J.), and Emilia Topp (Vienna, Va.) will christen the boats after their final home race.
All five of the Scarlet Knights’ boats reset their previous season-highs on Saturday, April 19 against St. Joseph’s and Navy on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa. The 1V8 clocked in at 6:26.18, the 2V8 recorded a time of 6:36.96, the 3V8 finished in 6:53.58, the 1V4 posted a time of 7:07.82 and the 2V4 finished with a time of 7:13.0.
Sunday’s race against Holy Cross is the second to last tune-up for RU before the American Athletic Conference Championships, set for Sunday, May 18 in West Windsor, N.J. Rutgers makes the short trip to Cherry Hill, N.J., next weekend on Sunday, May 4, to take part in the Eastern Sprints.
