BOSTON, Mass. (October 22, 2013) – The Rutgers rowing team competed in the prestigious 49th Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, Oct. 20, taking 36th place out of 39 competing boats in the Governor’s Cup Championship Eights Women’s Final.
The lineup of junior coxswain Brigid Parker (Califon, N.J.), sophomore Emily Goodman (Princeton, N.J.), senior Katie Bakaj (Longport, N.J.), senior Stephanie Ford (Nutley, N.J.), senior Gabby Oliviera (Long Island City, N.Y.), junior Veronica Leach (Bowie, Md.), sophomore Veronica DeSalvo (Plymouth, Minn.), sophomore Bailey Irelan (Delaware, Ohio) and senior Emilia Topp (Vienna, Va.) recorded a time of 18:57.341.
The Cambridge Boat Club, also known as the “Great Eight,” won the Governor’s Cup with a time of 15:59.549, narrowly defeating US Rowing, which finished second with a time 16:00.750. London Training Center finished third with a time of 16:16.336.

RU returns to New Jersey on Oct. 27 for the Princeton Chase. The Scarlet Knights will then close out the fall with consecutive Garden State races, competing at the Collegiate Small Boats Regatta on Nov. 3 in West Windsor, N.J. and returning to race “On the Banks” at the Rutgers Classic on Nov. 9.
