  • West Windsor, N.J. (March 23, 2013) – Rutgers rowing took first and second in the varsity eight in a scrimmage with Villanova at Mercer Lake over the weekend.

RU and VU floated the starts and the wind and water conditions were extremely tough. The 1V8 won their pieces by open water.

Typical spring conditions for Mercer Lake – trucking tailwind, at times white-capping.  The Scarlet Knights raced two starting 1500’s and a closing 1000m. In the first 1500m piece, Rutgers finished first and second in the 1V and 2V, followed by Villanova in third and fourth.

In the second 1500, the finishing order was Rutgers 1V, Villanova 1V, Rutgers 2V, Villanova 2V. In the closing 1000, Rutgers went one-two again, with Villanova taking third and fourth.

The Rutgers novice eight dropped their pieces to Villanova.
