NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ -- There are some new faces on the Rutgers Crew staff this year. Head Coach Steve Wagner welcomes new Freshmen Heavyweight Coach Tom Hewitt to the heavyweight staff. Tom, a ’86 graduate of Columbia University, has a long resume of successful coaching with the Columbia Varsity Lightweight crew and as Head Coach of Men’s Crew at the University of California Santa Barbara. Last season, he led the Rutgers Varsity Lightweights to the Grand Finals of the EARC Sprints.

Head Coach of the Rutgers Women’s Crew Max Borghard will be assisted by new Novice Women’s coach Heather Putnam. Heather is a ‘98 graduate of the University of Massachusetts. She served as an intern coach at Princeton, and last season led the novice women’s crew at Navy to the Grand Finals of the EAWRC Sprints, the first time a Navy women’s eight has made the Grand Finals since joining the league.

The Rutgers Lightweight Crew will be led by new coach Paul Hammond. Paul, a ’87 graduate of Rutgers, was an outstanding member of the lightweight crew, and went on to train with the United States National Team Training Center. He is assisted by Mike Levitsky. Mike, who won an EARC Sprints title as an undergraduate, was a captain of the Rutgers Varsity Heavyweight Crew, and last season served as an intern coach for the Rutgers freshmen while working on his 5 year Masters of Education degree.
