Cherry Hill, N.J. (May 17, 2011) - Rutgers rowing capped the 2010-11 season at the EAWRC Eastern Sprints Sunday, May 15, on the Cooper River.
In excellent racing, the Rutgers first varsity eight placed fifth in the petite final, 1.3 seconds off of Penn and 0.2 seconds off of Syracuse. The Scarlet Knights defeated BIG EAST rival Georgetown by 6.13 seconds. The 1V line-up was comprised of: Katie Quinn (coxswain), Kat Geithman (stroke), Janine Ford (7), Helen Becz (6), Raelyn Loiselle (5), Stephanie Ford (4), Mary Gromlowicz (3), Kathleen Lai (2), Christine Hannigan (bow).
“The 1V’s race Sunday afternoon was outstanding,” said head coach Max Borghard. “It was disappointing not to beat Penn and Syracuse, but our performance speaks to the development and dedication of the women in the boat. We’re excited to continue on that path heading into next year. The seniors will be missed, but they help set a tone and expectation that will continue.”
The second varsity eight placed third in the third level final, closing the gap on Georgetown from nine seconds at BIG EAST to five seconds.
