PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Light Gray team was the winner of the eighth-annual Rutgers Color Games, an event which was sponsored by the RU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and held at the Louis Brown Athletic Center May 6.
Teams were formed of student-athletes from all 30 of Rutgers’ intercollegiate sports, giving the student-athletes a chance to meet and compete with members of other varsity teams. Teams, which each consisted of approximately 10 members, were identified by the color of shirts they were given – Yellow, Navy Blue, Royal Blue, Gold, Red, Black, White, Dark Gray, Light Gray, Purple, Teal, Maroon, Orange, Dark Green, and Tan.
Teams rotated through a series of events – three-legged basketball, flag football, ultimate Frisbee, relay races, an obstacle course, tug of war, Twister and Simon Says. Two teams competed at each event, then continued to rotate to other events against different teams until all eight tasks were completed. Points were awarded for each winner, and those points were tabulated at the end of the eight rotations to determine the overall champion. The day was then capped by a barbeque for the student-athletes. The events and cookout were conducted by members of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics staff.
The winning team of Light Gray consisted of Sean Axani (Red Bank, NJ/Men’s Basketball), Michelle Campbell (Princeton, NJ/Women’s Basketball), Christine Czarnecki (Hamilton, NJ/Softball), Ashley Dunn (Columbus, GA/Gymnastics), Gary Gibson (Jamesville, NY/Football), Amir Khan (Voorhees, NJ/Wrestling), Courtney Locke (San Marcos, TX/Women’s Basketball), Ray Pilch (Piscataway, NJ/Football), Joe Radigan (Hoboken, NJ/Football), Pat Smothers (Voorhees, NJ/Football) and Kara Spector (Easton, MD/Field Hockey).
