PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Kate Hickey has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Management Council.
Hickey is one of three representatives from the BIG EAST Conference to serve on the Management Council. She began serving her four-year term earlier this month.
The Division I Management Council is one of the governing bodies of the NCAA. The Council is comprised of 49 members who are athletics administrators and faculty athletics representatives from Division I-A, I-AA and I-AAA institutions. The duties and responsibilities of the Council include adopting NCAA bylaws and rules, subject to final approval by the NCAA Board of Directors, making recommendations to the Board regarding championship, fiscal, competitive and academic policies, approving interpretations of NCAA legislation, reviewing and acting on recommendations from the substructure of the NCAA governance process (e.g., cabinets and committees), and identifying trends and evaluating problems in Division I intercollegiate athletics.
“I am very excited to have been appointed as one of the BIG EAST Conference’s representatives to the Management Council,” Hickey said. “Even though I represent the BIG EAST, I think it is positive for Rutgers to have representation at one of the highest levels of governance within the NCAA. Additionally, my involvement on the Council will allow our staff, through me, to have some additional insight into the workings of the NCAA. This is also an excellent opportunity for me, personally, to further my professional development as an athletics administrator.”
Hickey joined the Rutgers staff in January of 1999, and is responsible for overseeing the NCAA compliance program for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. Named the Senior Woman Administrator in 2000, she also is the co-advisor for RU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Chair of the Rutgers Title IX Committee.
