  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 19, 2014) – Rutgers gymnastics has promoted Danielle D’Elia to assistant coach, head coach Louis Levine announced Thursday. A former all-conference contributor for the Scarlet Knights, D’Elia served as volunteer assistant last season.

“I am super excited to take over this position and continue being involved with the program,” D’Elia said. “I love the school and look forward to passing along my experiences as a Rutgers gymnast to the current team. This is a great opportunity.”

“Danielle has been a big part of our program the last several years, first as a gymnast and last season as a volunteer assistant,” Levine said. “We are excited to add her to the staff on a full-time basis. She has a really high technical knowledge of gymnastics that will only help us. As a program, we look to continue the momentum gained over the last couple years and Danielle will only help keep pushing it forward.”

D’Elia will be responsible for floor exercise choreography, balance beam, conditioning, and recruiting among other duties within the program. She was part of the staff in 2014 that saw the program reach new heights with a berth to NCAA Regionals as a team. The Scarlet Knights registered six of the top 10 scores in program history, including a school-record 196.225 March 8.

D’Elia competed as a student-athlete for Rutgers gymnastics from 2011-13 and was named EAGL Second Team All-Floor Exercise twice. She recorded marks of 9.900 on both floor exercise and uneven bars during her career. In addition, D’Elia earned an individual spot at NCAA Regionals in 2011 and was named to the EAGL All-Academic Team.

Earning a degree in journalism and media studies from Rutgers, D’Elia is a native of Colts Neck, N.J., and attended Freehold Regional High School.
