PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 20, 2013) – Rutgers Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Julie Hermann announced today the hiring of Sarah Baumgartner as Senior Associate Athletic Director, Development. Baumgartner will serve as the sport administrator for Rutgers’ men's and women's basketball programs and as the head of the Rutgers Athletics fundraising arm.
Prior to Rutgers, Baumgartner spent seven years with Missouri Athletics in development, most recently as the Tigers’ Associate Athletic Director for Development and men’s basketball supervisor. During Baumgartner's time at Missouri, the Tigers enjoyed unparalleled competitive success both athletically and in the growth of donor contributions.
"The addition of Sarah to our executive team is a chance to bring one of our industries top talents to Rutgers,” said Hermann. “She has a proven track record from one of the country's highest performing athletic departments. Sarah will provide great leadership and experience as we transition into the Big Ten."
At Missouri, Baumgartner oversaw a 15-member staff that has raised $84 million towards Mizzou's “Going for Gold” campaign. During her tenure, Missouri saw an annual fund that increased 60 percent in donor membership and 40 percent in annual fund gift growth from 2008 to 2013.
“I am really excited to be a part of the Rutgers family and help make a positive impact,” said Baumgartner. “Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with Julie Hermann and seeing her work at Louisville, it was the best in class. I feel that with the terrificpeople already at Rutgers we can do something great and can’t wait to assist. I can’t thank enough Missouri Athletic Director Mike Alden and Deputy Athletic Director Doug Gillin along with the Missouri coaches, student-athletes and supporters for helping me take the next step in my career.”
Baumgartner successfully led her fundraising team and sport programs through Missouri's transition from the Big 12 Conference to the SEC, which saw record highs for donor membership and dollars raised at Mizzou.
Baumgartner was a four-year letterwinner in softball at Illinois. She was named an All-Big Ten Tournament performer and a Big Ten sportsmanship award winner. In 2004, she graduated from the College of Business with her bachelor’s in business administration. Baumgartner earned a master's degree in sports administration from Illinois in 2005.
