Rutgers University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Julie Hermann and the parents of Jevon Tyree, Clarice and Mark Tyree, and the Rev. Dr. DeForest B. Soaries Jr., senior pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, met today to clarify misunderstandings and resolve the issues relating to Jevon Tyree’s experience as a student-athlete at Rutgers University.
The interests of the student-athlete were central to their conversation.
As previously announced by Rutgers University Football Coach Kyle Flood, the scholarship for Jevon Tyree will continue for the balance of the 2013-2014 academic year. In addition, he will receive academic support to help ensure his success while a student at Rutgers University.
The university’s general counsel, John Farmer Jr., will review the incident and assess all relevant facts and any subsequent actions taken by the university’s athletics department.
Farmer is the former N.J. Attorney General; he was also Senior Counsel to the 9/11 Commission, which investigated the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
