  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct 16, 2013) – Redshirt senior Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, Canada) is one of 10 NCAA Division I women’s soccer senior athletes to be named a finalist for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced Wednesday.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 men’s candidates and 30 women’s candidates announced in August. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Voting for the award is done online, as Rutgers fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through November 25.

Filigno is tied for the team lead this season with 17 points (7g, 3a) with a team-high five game-winning goals. She broke the all-time RU record for game-winners earlier the season, passing former RU greats Kris Kurzynowski and Carli Lloyd.

Filigno collected a number of individual honors this preseason, including a No. 12 ranking in TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Women’s Top 100. The organization also placed her in its Preseason Best XI Second Team for her play during the 2012 season.

The redshirt senior became the fifth player in RU history to be tabbed a candidate for the MAC Hermann Trophy.

The Scarlet Knights will hit the road this weekend to take on No. 19/20 UCF (Oct. 18) and USF (Oct. 20) in a pair of pivotal American Athletic Conference matches. With 13 points, UCF (11-2-2, 4-0-1 AAC) is ahead of Rutgers by one point in the standings, while USF (7-4-3, 2-3 AAC) looks to get back on track after dropping a pair of road matches to Louisville and Cincinnati.
