  • HOLMDEL, N.J. (September 21, 2013) –  The Rutgers women’s cross country team won the 19th Annual Monmouth University Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning at Holmdel Park led by the first place finish by sophomore Paige Senatore (Delsea, N.J.).

Rutgers, who brings home the title for the second straight year, led all schools with 36 points with the Scarlet Knights recording four top ten results.  Host Monmouth placed second with 41 points followed by Rider (71), Fairleigh Dickinson (98) and Wagner (114).

Senatore finished the 5K course in a time of 18:43.85 taking home the top spot with a 21 second margin.

Placing in the top ten were junior Allison Payenski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) in third with her time of 19:12.00, freshman Kaityln Bedard (Ringoes, N.J.) in sixth at 19:35.53 and senior Rashmi Singh (Flemington, N.J.) with a time of 19:40.11 for eighth.

Also competing for the Scarlet Knights were freshman Nisa Cicitta (Glen Gardner, N.J.), who placed 21st (20:45.25), and junior Felicia O’Donnell (Franklinville, N.J.) in 23rd (20:55.99).

“I was very pleased with the training over the last two weeks,” said assistant coach Jan Merrill-Morin.  “The ladies were able to translate their training to the race today.  We were the defending team champions, so it’s satisfying to return and win again to make it two-in-a-row.”

The Rutgers women’s cross country team returns to action at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
