  • Filigno scored her third goal of the season and recorded an assist against Fordham

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 3, 2013) CollegeSportsMadness.com named redshirt senior Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, Canada) American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for her performances against Delaware (Aug. 30) and Fordham (Sept.1) during a 2-0 weekend for the Rutgers women’s soccer team.

College Sports Madness identifies the players who have made the greatest impact to their team from each conference and on a national basis each week.

Filigno scored the game-winners in both wins by virtue of a penalty kick, sending RU (4-0) to a weekend sweep and its second 4-0 start in two seasons. The forward also tallied an assist in the 3-0 victory over Fordham, setting up freshman Madison Tiernan (Voorhees, N.J.) for her second goal of the season.

Filigno leads the team with three goals through four games and is now second all-time in school history with 14 game-winning goals behind first place Kris Kurzynowski (15) and Carli Lloyd (15). Her three strikes also bump her to fourth all-time in the RU record books with 28.

The Scarlet Knights are back in action on Friday, when they open the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic against No. 5 Virginia. Fans will be able to follow live stats of the contest by clicking the following link: Rutgers vs. Virginia
