PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 26, 2013) – Junior Sara Corson (Metuchen, N.J.) and freshman Madison Tiernan (Voorhees, N.J.) of the Rutgers women’s soccer team (2-0) each earned spots on the American Athletic Conference’s Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday.

Corson tallied five points (2g, 1a) in RU’s 3-2 win against Army over the weekend, recording her first collegiate goal and an assist in the process.  Tiernan scored the game-winner – the first goal of her career – in RU’s season-opening, 1-0 victory against Drexel, while also registering an assist at Army for a three-point weekend.

With the goal in her first collegiate match, Tiernan became the first true freshman to do so since Rheanne Sleiman in 2007. Current senior Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, Canada) scored a goal in her first collegiate match against Stony Brook during her redshirt season in 2010.

Corson became the first RU player since 2011 to record at least five points in a match, needing just 22 minutes of action to score two goals and notch an assist. She leads the team with two goals and five points this season.

RU will play its first full weekend at home starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, when the team welcomes Delaware (0-2) to Yurcak Field. The Scarlet Knights will close out the weekend at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1 against Fordham (0-2). Sunday’s match will be broadcast live by RVision, presented by AT&T on scarletknights.com.

Season tickets for RU women’s soccer are still on sale and are $50 for adults, $40 for children 12 & under and seniors 55 & older. All packages include a free t-shirt.  Season tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 732-907-1570.
