PISCATAWAY, N.J. (July 24, 2013) – Rutgers University Athletics today announced a multimedia rights and sponsorship partnership with IMG College, the nation's leading collegiate marketing firm, on an 11-year agreement beginning the 2013-14 academic year. The broad partnership is designed to bring new national and corporate support and brand recognition to the University’s athletic program.
The 11-year agreement runs through 2023-24 and guarantees to pay to Rutgers more than $65 million, plus revenue-sharing opportunities, over the length of the partnership. Rutgers can exercise an option to extend the agreement to as many as 14 years through 2026-27 with a guarantee of more than $87 million, plus revenue-sharing opportunities. The agreement includes IMG College’s exclusive representation and management of game broadcasts and coaches’ shows for radio and television, publications, digital assets, corporate partnerships, stadium and venue signage, game promotions, and game day hospitality.
“We are very pleased to announce this strategic partnership with IMG College during this historic time for our athletics program and our university,” said Rutgers University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Julie Hermann. “As we transition to the Big Ten Conference, it is essential that we maximize sponsorship opportunities and exposure to grow the Rutgers brand. IMG College’s global resources will help take our brand to the next level by engaging new sponsors and expanding our revenue base.”
“We are thrilled to create a partnership supporting the athletics program of one of the nation’s oldest and most respected universities,” said Ben Sutton Jr., President of IMG College. “Rutgers is known as the birthplace of college football, and from these storied beginnings, the University has recently made major investments in athletics, bringing its program to national prominence and creating significant sponsorship opportunities. As IMG College continues to build our local, regional and national marketing platforms, Rutgers is an important addition in the New York market, the largest in the country.”
IMG College was selected through a competitive bidding process.
Rutgers will join Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio State as Big Ten schools to partner with IMG College. IMG currently represents the media and sponsorship rights for more than 90 universities nationwide, as well as the NCAA and its 89 championships.
Under the contract, IMG will identify a dedicated team to be based in Piscataway. Through its licensing affiliate, The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), IMG College has represented Rutgers trademark licensing program since 2008.
