Trey Miller Named Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (July 10, 2013) – The Rutgers University Office of Athletic Communications announced today that Trey Miller has been named Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. A native of Bellefonte, Pa., Miller will serve as the primary media relations contact for the Scarlet Knights’ volleyball and men’s lacrosse programs, while also assisting with men’s basketball and football.

    Miller has served as an athletic communications assistant at Rutgers since the fall of 2012. His initial duties included volleyball, gymnastics, tennis and baseball, before taking over wrestling and men’s lacrosse in January 2013. Miller helped Rutgers host the 2013 EIWA Wrestling Championships, successfully coordinating with 14 teams and the EIWA Conference, producing the tournament program and running social media efforts.

    Seven Rutgers wrestlers qualified for the 2013 NCAA Championships and Miller traveled to the tournament with the nationally-ranked squad. He also traveled with the BIG EAST Champion football team to the Russell Athletic Bowl, serving as the secondary contact. He assisted with stats for men’s and women’s basketball, softball and women’s lacrosse. Miller successfully started social media efforts with the wrestling team, including interactive Twitter Q&A in-season sessions.

    Miller earned an undergraduate degree in journalism with an emphasis in sports journalism from Penn State University in May 2012. During his tenure in State College, He worked as a student assistant in the department of athletic communications, serving as the Nittany Lions’ primary women’s golf contact for three seasons. He assisted with nearly all of PSU’s varsity teams and worked as an official statistician for men’s basketball for two seasons. A former contributing high school football writer for the Centre County Gazette, Miller received the Hearst Journalism Sports Writing Award in February 2012.
