PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 14, 2013) – Rutgers women’s soccer center back Shannon Woeller (Vancouver, Canada) has been named the 2012-13 American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Institutional Scholar Athlete of the Year for Rutgers University, it was announced by the league.
The exercise science and sports studies major started all 22 games at center back during the 2012 season and was named the team’s scholar-athlete for the third-straight year. The 2011 All-BIG EAST Third Team selection scored two goals in 2012.
Woeller is a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star and has been placed on the Dean's List every semester. Woeller was also named to the 2011 NSCAA Scholar All-East Region Second Team. The two-time team captain has excelled on both the collegiate and national level. A member of the Canadian National Team, Woeller has tallied 16 caps.
The American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is one of a number of scholarships presented by the BIG EAST Conference and American Eagle Outfitters during the 2012-13 academic year. Thirty student-athletes (one male and one female from each of the BIG EAST’s 15 member institutions) will be named as the winners of the American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarships.
