PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 17, 2013) – The Rutgers University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced today that Jimmy Gill has been named Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. Gill rejoins the RU staff after a stint at the University of Miami (Fla.). He will serve as the secondary media contact for football, as well as the primary contact for baseball and gymnastics.
Gill most recently served as the Hurricanes’ Assistant Communications Director, where he worked with football (secondary), volleyball, track & field and rowing.
The Lewes, Del., native spent the 2011-12 academic year with Rutgers as the Athletic Communications Assistant, working with baseball, volleyball, women’s tennis and gymnastics. Gill successfully promoted the BIG EAST Player of the Year for baseball, Patrick Kivlehan, in addition to expanding the social media presence for each of his four sports.
Gill earned an undergraduate degree in political science from Swarthmore (Pa.) College in 2010, before receiving his master’s degree in sport administration from Miami in June 2011. He was a four-year starter on the baseball team at Swarthmore, serving as team captain as a senior and helping the Garnet to its first ever playoff appearance while earning all-conference honors in the process.
During his tenure at SC, Gill served as a student sports information director and basketball radio commentator. With UM as a graduate assistant, Gill was the primary communications contact for women’s golf and the secondary contact for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams
