PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Jan. 17, 2013) – The Rutgers gymnastics team is home for the second-straight meet, hosting Bridgeport, Penn and Ursinus in a quad meet on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. inside the Livingston Recreation Center.
Last weekend, the Scarlet Knights posted a team score of 193.900 at home, their best mark since recording a 194.350 at home on March 5, 2011. Led by second-year head coach Louis Levine, Rutgers put in another impressive performance on the bars, tallying the fourth-best score in program history with a 48.850.
In its last meet, the Scarlet Knights totaled a 48.000 or better in every event, recording a 48.200 on the vault, a 48.850 on the bars, a 48.050 on the balance beam and a 48.000 on the floor exercise. The last time Rutgers accomplished that feat was at the EAGL Championships last season. Senior Danielle D’Elia (Colts Neck, N.J.) tied for first place on the bars and the floor in the tri-meet on Jan. 12.
Bridgeport, a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), sports a 1-0 record under ninth-year head coach Byron Knox, downing Alaska-Anchorage at home by a score of 191.450-187.425 on Jan. 10. Rutgers beat the Seawolves a day later. In a series that dates back to 1989, the Scarlet Knights and the Purple Knights last met in 2012, with Rutgers falling by a score of 193.875-192.400.
Penn (1-3) is coming off a fourth-place finish at the George Washington Invitational on Jan. 13 with a score of 189.575. The Quakers, also members of the ECAC, are led by senior Dana Bonincontri, who was named ECAC Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 14. Rutgers fell to Penn last season, but had previously won five-straight matchups in the series. The Quakers are under the direction of seventh-year head coach John Ceralde.
Ursinus (0-1) opened the season at home on Jan. 16 and lost to West Chester, 183.400-180.675. Members of the ECAC, the Bears are led by head coach Jeff Schepers. Last season, Rutgers picked up a 192.075-179.700 victory over Ursinus. The two squads first met in 1978.

With the corner of Avenue E and Road 3 being shut down, fans are encouraged to take Route 18 to Suttons Lane. Suttons Lane can then be taken to the other side of Road 3 to get to the Livingston Recreation Center.
