PISCATAWAY, NJ – Student-athletes at Rutgers will once again continue their tradition of sponsoring an annual Holiday Toy Drive to benefit needy children in the area during the holiday season.
This year, members of Rutgers’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), in conjunction with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, will be collecting toys during basketball games at the Rutgers Athletic Center on the weekend of Dec. 13-14. On Saturday, Dec. 13, the Toy Drive will be held when the Rutgers men’s squad plays host to Princeton at 2 p.m., and on Sunday, Dec. 14, the Toy Drive continues when the Scarlet Knights’ women’s team faces Texas Christian at 1:00 p.m.
To participate in the Holiday Toy Drive, Rutgers fans are urged to contribute
new, unwrapped toys or books for boys and girls, ages 3-5, at those games.
Last year was one of the most successful for the Rutgers Student-Athletes Holiday Toy Drive, as over 500 toys were collected. Donations were made to the Middlesex and Somerset County Head Start programs as well as to the Naomi’s Way Shelter.
