March-18-03 Rutgers Splits Doubleheader at Virginia
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The Rutgers softball team (8-7) split a doubleheader at Virginia, falling in the first game 5-2 and rebounding to win the second, 6-1.

March-18-03 FIU Holds Off Rutgers, 12-10
MIAMI, FL – A flurry of late-game substitutions ignited a seven-run rally, but it was too little too late as Rutgers fell to Florida International, 12-10, tonight at University Park in Miami. Trailing 12-3, head coach Fred Hill unloaded his bench in the eighth and the replacements catalyzed a seven-run rally to close the gap. RU then put the tying run in scoring position in the ninth, but failed to score against FIU closer Edgar Ramirez. With the loss, RU falls to 2-9, while FIU improves to 20-7.

March-17-03 Game Time Determined for Rutgers-Western Kentucky Game
PISCATAWAY, NJ – The fourth-seeded Rutgers (20-7) women’s basketball team will play its NCAA Tournament first-round game against 13th-seeded Western Kentucky (22-8) Saturday, March 22, at 11:18 a.m. The game is being contested at Stegeman Coliseum (10,075) in Athens, GA.

March-17-03 Rutgers Women’s Tennis Downs Cornell, 4-3
MIAMI, FL -- The Rutgers women’s tennis team (5-5, 2-2 BIG EAST) defeated Cornell, 4-3, on Monday afternoon on the campus of the University of Miami in the first of three matches the team will play during its spring break trip to south Florida. Despite losing the doubles point, the Scarlet Knights won four singles matches to earn the victory.

March-16-03 Culley Places 12th At NCAA Championships
FAYETTEVILLE, AK -- Julie Culley (Lebanon, NJ) competed in the NCAA Championships in the 3000-meter event Saturday evening, finishing the race 12th. Culley, who finished with a time of 9:26.50, missed All-American honors by two places.

March-16-03 Normane, Atchison Lift Rutgers Past Miami, 8-7, in 12 Innings
CORAL GABLES, FL – A two-run, 12th-inning home run from Steve Normane (Pt. Pleasant, NJ) and standout relief pitching from Sean Atchison (Florham Park, NJ) gave the Scarlet Knights what they needed today – an 8-7, extra-inning win over No. 13 Miami at Mark Light Field. Rutgers was within one pitch of winning the game in regulation, but used three more innings to finish off the Hurricanes and end their eight-game winning streak. With the win, RU improves to 2-8, while Miami falls to 15-4. Normane entered the game hitting just .059 (1-for-17) following a season-opening 0-for-14 stretch but played the role of hero today in his final game at Mark Light Field.

March-16-03 Rutgers Receives NCAA Bid
PISCATAWAY, NJ – The No. 23/23 Rutgers women’s basketball team (20-7, 13-3 BIG EAST) has received the fourth seed in the Midwest Region of the 2003 NCAA Tournament. The Scarlet Knights will face 13th-seeded Western Kentucky in the first round Saturday, March 22, in Athens, GA. Game times have yet to be determined.

March-16-03 Rutgers Edged by Tulsa 3-2
ROCK HILL, SC - The Rutgers softball team (7-6) fell to Tulsa 3-2. The game was originally scheduled as part of the Winthrop/Ringor Invitational, which was cancelled due to rain.

March-16-03 Gerhardstein Competes at Diving Regional
BUFFALO, NY -- Senior Kelly Gerhardstein (Sandusky, OH) competed in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events at the NCAA Zone A qualifying meet this weekend at Alumni Arena Natatorium at the University of Buffalo.
