LOS ANGELES, CA – The Rutgers men’s soccer team (9-5-3) put up a valiant fight against top-ranked UCLA on Friday night, but ended up on the short end of a 2-0 decision in Los Angeles, CA. The game was played in a driving rainstorm at Drake Stadium.

NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers junior guard Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been unanimously selected to the 2003-2004 Preseason All-BIG EAST Conference First Team, and the Rutgers women’s basketball team was picked to finish second by the league coaches in the Preseason BIG EAST Conference Poll.

October-29-03 Nate Jones Earns Prestigious National Scholar-Athlete Award
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Senior Nate Jones (Scotch Plains, NJ) is one of eight Division I-A members named to College Football’s 2003 National Scholar-Athlete Class, as selected by The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. Jones, a starting cornerback and kick returner for the Scarlet Knights, will receive an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship.

October-29-03 Field Hockey Falls to Hofstra in Regular-Season Finale
HEMPSTEAD, NY – Rutgers’ 2003 regular season officially came to an end on Wednesday night with a 2-0 loss to Hofstra at James M. Shuart Stadium. The Scarlet Knights fall to 7-12 overall but will continue its season as the fourth seed in next weekend’s BIG EAST Tournament.

October-28-03 RU Men’s Soccer Tops Princeton, 3-1, In Home Finale
PISCATAWAY, NJ – On a rainy Tuesday evening on Senior Night at Yurcak Field, the Rutgers men’s soccer team recorded a 3-1 victory over local-rival Princeton. The win improves the Scarlet Knights to 9-4-3, securing head coach Bob Reasso his 23rd consecutive season without a losing record as head coach of the Scarlet Knights.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Sophomore quarterback Ryan Hart (Coral Springs, FL) has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 26. Hart shares the award with WVU’s Quincy Wilson and is the fourth Rutgers played to be honored by the league this season.
