May-23-04 Rutgers’ Season Ends with 7-6 Loss
PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Villanova Wildcats scored seven runs over the first two innings and held on for a 7-6 win in the season finale today at the Class of ’53 Complex, handing Rutgers (30-23, 13-11 BE) its sixth-straight conference loss and third-straight by one run. Today’s loss overshadowed a stellar pitching performance from sophomore Jimmy Jansen (Hillsdale, NJ), who allowed four hits and no runs over the final 7.1 innings. It also signaled the end of the 2004 season – the first time in 19 years that Rutgers will not advance to the postseason.

May-23-04 Badger Signs Free Agent Contract with Toronto
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers second baseman Graig Badger (Union, NJ) signed a free agent contract with the Toronto Blue Jays and area scout Tommy Tanous this afternoon. Eligible to sign as a fifth-year senior prior to the draft on June 7, Badger will join former infield mate Vinny Esposito (Middletown, NJ) in the Blue Jays’ system, with the pair likely headed to Auburn of the NY-Penn League this summer.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – For the second-straight day, Villanova thrived in its role as the spoiler, edging Rutgers, 2-1, this afternoon at the Class of ’53 Complex. OJ DeChristofano (Pequannock, NJ), making his first start of the season, allowed just three hits and two runs in 7.2 innings for Rutgers – one of which scored following his departure.

May-22-04 Rutgers Baseball Eliminated from BIG EAST Playoffs
PITTSBURGH, PA – The St. John's Red Storm captured a 6-5 victory in the second game of their doubleheader today with Pittsburgh, thus clinching the fourth and final spot in the 2004 BIG EAST Baseball Championship. Rutgers, which has dropped its first two games vs. Villanova, is officially eliminated from postseason play.

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers rowers, Lauren Kolb (Neshanic Station, NJ), Amy Bircsak (East Windsor, NJ), Karen Cornell (Pittsburgh, PA), Nancy Erickson (Hazlet, NJ) and Melissa Thomas (Hampton, NJ) were named the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) scholar-athletes. Rutgers was the only school to have five award winners.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Holding a 4-0 lead with Jack Egbert (Rutherford, NJ) cruising through the Villanova lineup for the first six innings, the Scarlet Knights allowed seven runs in the seventh, tied the game in the eighth but fell, 8-7, when the Wildcats plated the winning run with two outs in the ninth.
