CLEARWATER, FL – Sophomore Jessica Crosby (Sedro-Woolley, WA) pitched effectively in 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing only three hits on two strikeouts, but a late seventh inning rally by Villanova was enough to top the Rutgers University softball team (0-11) by a score of 2-1, on the final day of competition at the Speedline Invitational on Sunday, March 13, in Clearwater, FL.

March-12-05 Hook, Spicer Hit and Pitch Rutgers Past FIU, 14-10
MIAMI, FL – Junior Steve Hook (Langhorne, PA), inserted into the game as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning, hit a solo home run in his first at bat and a three-run blast in his second to lift Rutgers past FIU, 14-10, this afternoon at University Park. Sean Spicer (Pearl River, NJ), who pitched 2.2 innings last night, earned the win in relief with 3.2 shutout innings and helped his own cause with a ninth inning solo home run. The Scarlet Knights, who banged out a season-high 20 hits, snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 6-4, while FIU fell to 14-6.

CLEARWATER, FL – The Rutgers University softball team (0-10) dropped a pair of games on the third day of competition at the Speedline Invitational in Clearwater, FL, falling to Penn State 10-0 in game one and Temple 9-1 in game two.

March-11-05 Women’s Lacrosse Edges Boston College In Overtime, 11-10
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Senior goalkeeper Lyndsey Feldmen (Ft. Myers, FL) made a save with two seconds left in overtime to help preserve Rutgers’ 11-10 come-from-behind victory over Boston College in BIG EAST women’s lacrosse action on Friday in Piscataway. With the win, RU improves to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the BIG EAST.

<FAYETTEVILLE, AR – Senior Shameka Marshall (Mispah, NJ) finished her winter track season in style, finishing fourth in the long jump to earn her first-ever All-America honors at the NCAA Championships, at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track in Fayetteville, AR.

March-11-05 Rutgers Baseball Falls Short in Opener with FIU, 9-7
MIAMI, FL – With two on and two outs in the top of the ninth, a fly ball from Dave Williams (Franklin, NJ) fell just shy of the left field wall as Rutgers dropped a frustrating, 9-7 contest to Florida International tonight in Miami. With the score tied at 5-5 in the seventh, Nick Cadena drilled a two-run homer to to put FIU ahead, as the Golden Panthers scored twice in each of their final two at bats before holding off the Scarlet Knights in the ninth.
