PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers’ Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named a mid-season candidate for the 2004-2005 Naismith National Player-of-the-Year Award. Pondexter was one of 30 Division I women’s basketball student-athletes to be included on the mid-season list.

February-21-05 Pondexter Named BIG EAST Player of the Week
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers’ Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the group announced Feb. 21. This marks the second time this season that Pondexter has been singled out by the conference (Jan. 31).

Both players were instrumental in RU’s season-opening three-game sweep of William & Mary over the weekend.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers senior Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has announced that she intends to return to the University for the 2005-2006 academic year and compete for the women’s basketball team.

February-20-05 Rodriguez Comes Through Again as RU Sweeps W&M with 4-1 Win
WILLIAMSBURG, VA – After driving in three of RU’s runs in a 6-3 win on Saturday, senior Cory Rodriguez (Bridgewater, NJ) was once again the hero on Sunday, driving in two runs in the top of the ninth with a one-out to snap a 1-1 tie and propel Rutgers to a 4-1 win over William & Mary this afternoon at Plumeri Park. RU starter Aaron Kalb (Middletown, NJ) allowed just five hits and one run in 8.0 innings, but was matched by W&M starter Joe Kantakevich until the ninth. With the win, RU improves to 3-0, sweeping the series, while W&M falls to 3-3.

BOCA RATON, FL – The Rutgers softball team (0-5) fell in its final game of the FAU Tournament to North Carolina State by a score of 10-0 on Sunday, Feb. 20, in Boca Raton, FL.

February-20-05 Men's Track and Field Captures 2nd Place at BIG EAST Indoor Championships
SYRACUSE, NY – The Rutgers men’s track and field team finished second in the BIG EAST Championships that were completed on Sunday at the Carrier Dome, with 168.50 points. Notre Dame won the 2005 men’s championship with 182 points.

February-20-05 Marshall Leads RU Women's Track and Field to 7th Place Finish at BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships
SYRACUSE, NY – The Rutgers women’s track and field team place seventh at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships held at the Carrier Dome. Pittsburgh won the championship with 161.50 points, securing their third BIG EAST title, having won the women’s team title in 1989 and 1999.
