March-04-05 Roy, Ressa Advance to Semis in First Day of EIWA Championships
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Rutgers seniors Andy Roy (Wall, NJ) and Chris Ressa (Andover, NJ) each reached the semifinal round of their weight bracket on Friday in the opening day of the 101st annual Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Championships (EIWA). Rutgers is in ninth place in the 13-school tournament, hosted by the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. The Scarlet Knights accumulated 13 points as a team on Friday. Lehigh leads the team championship with 60 points after the opening day.

March-04-05 Five Scarlet Knights Honored by BIG EAST
HARTFORD, CT – Five members of the No. 9/9 Rutgers women’s basketball team (23-5, 14-2 BIG EAST) were singled out for their regular-season accomplishments with awards at the BIG EAST Conference pre-tournament banquet March 4 in Hartford, CT. In all, RU snagged four of the seven specialty awards, and earned a total of five berths on the five all-league teams.

March-02-05 Rutgers Drops 66-56 Decision to Notre Dame
SOUTH BEND, IN – Sophomore guard Quincy Douby scored a game-high 19 points, but Notre Dame (17-9, 9-6 BIG EAST) pulled away late for a hard-fought 66-56 over Rutgers (9-17, 2-13 BIG EAST) on Wednesday night at the Joyce Center in South Bend, IN.

March-01-05 NCAA Releases APR Report
PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers University Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with the NCAA, has released initial Academic Progress Rates (APR) based on the fall 2003 and spring 2004 semesters. Rutgers’ student-athletes receiving athletics scholarships combined for a score of 962, which is above the national Division I average of 948. Included in Rutgers’ report were seven teams that achieved a score of 1000 (men’s and women’s golf, gymnastics, women’s crew, softball, women’s tennis and volleyball). The Scarlet Knights’ football team received a score of 980, ahead of the national Division I-A average of 921.

March-01-05 Frazier Named One of Country’s Top Freshmen by Baseball America
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Third baseman Todd Frazier (Toms River, NJ) has been rated the 24th best freshman in the country by Baseball America through a survey of Major League Baseball scouts and scouting directors. Frazier, whose older brother Jeff was an All-American last season with the Scarlet Knights, is the only BIG EAST freshman cited on the top 50 list. He was also named the conference’s top newcomer in the college preview edition of the magazine.

VILLANOVA, PA – The No. 9/9 Rutgers women’s basketball team (23-5, 14-2 BIG EAST) won its first-ever outright BIG EAST Conference regular-season title with a 51-39 victory at Villanova (17-10, 10-6 BIG EAST) March 1.

WEST POINT, NY – Playing with just four healthy bodies, the Rutgers women’s tennis team (4-4) was able to salvage a split of its weekend matches with a 4-3 triumph against Long Island University on Sunday afternoon.
