STORRS, CT – Facing Connecticut closer Mike James with the game tied at 5-5 with two outs in the top of the eighth inning, junior Vinny Esposito (Middletown, NJ) laced James’ first offering to the fence in right-center, driving in two runs and giving Rutgers a 7-5 win in the series finale today at J.O. Christian Field.

SOUTH BEND, IN - The Rutgers softball team ended its 2003 campaign (26-23, 8-12 BIG EAST) with a 2-0 game one upset of Notre Dame (33-15, 14-3 BIG EAST), but fell in the nightcap 1-0.

May-04-03 Rutgers Finishes Fourth at BIG EAST Championships
David Klics missed the title in the 110-meter hurdles by 11-tenths of a second.
STORRS, CT – The Rutgers men’s track team finished fourth at the 2003 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Connecticut. The men earned 73.5 points to finish behind Virginia Tech (75), Connecticut (136.5) and champion Notre Dame (139) in the three-day event.

May-04-03 Rutgers Receives NCAA Tournament Bid
PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team (10-4) received a bid to the 16-team NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championships and will host ECAC rival Georgetown (10-3) at Yurcak Field in the first round of the tournament on Sunday, May 11 at 1:00pm. Rutgers was one of 9 teams to gain an at-large bid into the field.

May-04-03 Rutgers Women’s Track Finishes Eighth at BIG EAST Championships
Jen Austin placed second in the javelin throw with a toss of 144-2.
STORRS, CT – The Rutgers women’s track team finished eighth at the 2003 BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Connecticut. The women earned 42 points overall. The University of Miami won the three-day event with an overall point total of 166.

Sophomore Shameka Marshall (Mizpah, NJ) placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles on Sunday, finishing the race in 14.50 seconds.

PRINCETON, NJ – The No. 15 Rutgers heavyweight crew upset No. 10 Yale May 3 on Lake Carnegie.

May-03-03 Rutgers Swept by Syracuse 6-3, 7-1
SYRACUSE, NY - The Rutgers softball team (25-22, 7-11 BIG EAST) dropped two games to the Syracuse Orangewomen (16-24, 6-12 BIG EAST), 6-3 and 7-1 at the Syracuse Softball Stadium at Skytop Saturday. The BIG EAST doubleheader was originally scheduled fro Friday, May 2, but rain forced the postponement to today.

May-03-03 #8 Rutgers Topples #3 UMass in Regular-Season Finale 12-9
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Junior Delby Powless (Six Nations, Ontario) and sophomore Jamie Lovejoy (Holbrook, NY) each scored three goals and freshman goalie Greg Havalchak (Corning, NY) saved 15 shots to lead the No. 8 Rutgers men’s lacrosse team (10-4, 3-2 ECAC) to a 12-9 victory over third-ranked Massachusetts (12-2, 3-2 ECAC) today at Yurcak Field. UMass is the highest ranked team Rutgers has defeated since beating No. 3 Syracuse in 1998. The 10 wins are the most for the program since the 1990 season, when RU went 10-5 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

May-03-03 Rutgers Baseball Splits with Connecticut
STORRS, CT – After winning the opener, 5-3, to extend its winning streak to 13 games, the Rutgers baseball team suffered a 10-7, game two loss, splitting a doubleheader with UConn today at J.O. Christian Field. In the opener, Jack Egbert (Rutherford, NJ) won his seventh-straight game and improved to 6-0 in the BIG EAST with another strong outing, but in the nightcap, a costly fielding error ended RU’s bid for a 14th-straight win.

May-03-03 Rutgers in Third Place After Second Day of BIG EAST Championships
STORRS, CT – The Rutgers men’s track and field team stands in third place after the second day of competition at the BIG EAST Conference Championships. The event is being held May 2-4 in Storrs, CT.
