February-24-05 No. 23 Army Escapes With 23-20 Victory Over Rutgers Wrestling
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Seniors Andy Roy (Wall, NJ) and Chris Ressa (Andover, NJ) posted victories in their final match at the College Avenue Gymnasium, but the Scarlet Knights fell just short of upending No. 23 Army on Thursday, dropping a 23-20 decision to the Black Knights. Rutgers and Army split the 10 bouts with the Scarlet Knights surrendering six points with a forfeit at heavyweight. RU ends its dual season 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the EIWA, while Army moves to 12-5 overall and 4-2 in the EIWA.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers senior men’s soccer striker Chris Karcz (Clifton, NJ) and senior women’s lacrosse attacker Lisa Savage (Cortlandt, Manor, NY) were two of 24 student-athletes (12 male/12 female) to be named BIG EAST/Aeropostale Scholar-Athletes for the 2004-05 academic year, the league announced Wednesday.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – The ninth-ranked Rutgers women’s basketball team (21-5, 12-2 BIG EAST) ran its winning streak to six games with a 54-36 victory over No. 24/23 Boston College (17-8, 8-6 BIG EAST) on Wednesday evening at the Louis Brown Athletic Center.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers’ Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named a mid-season candidate for the 2004-2005 Naismith National Player-of-the-Year Award. Pondexter was one of 30 Division I women’s basketball student-athletes to be included on the mid-season list.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers’ Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the group announced Feb. 21. This marks the second time this season that Pondexter has been singled out by the conference (Jan. 31).

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Seniors Cory Rodriguez (Bridgewater, NJ) and Aaron Kalb (Middletown, NJ) have captured the first BIG EAST Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, of the 2005 season. Both players were instrumental in RU’s season-opening three-game sweep of William & Mary over the weekend.
