September-17-05 RU Volleyball Splits Day at Embassy Suites Classic
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Rutgers University volleyball team (4-8) split a pair of matches on the second day of competition at the Embassy Suites Classic on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the College Avenue Gymnasium. The Scarlet Knights topped UMBC by a score of 3-0 (30-19, 30-18, 30-25), but dropped a 3-1 (14-30, 30-28, 19-30, 15-30) decision to Fairfield in the day’s final match.

AMHERST, NY – Brian Leonard rushed for 121 yards and Ryan Hart threw two touchdown passes to lead Rutgers (2-1) to a 17-3 win over Buffalo tonight in Amherst, NY. The Scarlet Knights held a slim 7-0 lead at the half, but scored 10 points in the decisive third quarter and relied on a strong defensive effort for their second-straight win. Buffalo is now 0-3.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Former Scarlet Knight Chelsea Newton (’05) and her Sacramento Monarch teammates will head home tied with the Connecticut Sun 1-1 in the best-of-five WNBA Finals. The Sun evened the series Sept. 15, earning a 77-70 overtime victory on their home court. The two teams will meet in Game 3 Sunday, Sept. 18, at 4:00 p.m. ET on ABC.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Rutgers women's volleyball team (3-7) bounced back from its five-game skid in dramatic fashion with a 3-1 (31-29, 19-30, 30-26, 33-31) victory against Temple (4-7) at the Embassy Suites Classic on Friday, Sept. 16, at the College Avenue Gymnasium. The Scarlet Knights previously suffered a 3-0 loss to the Owls in their first meeting on Aug. 25.
