PISCATAWAY, NJ – For the second consecutive week Rutgers senior goalie Lyndsey Feldman (Ft. Myers, FL) was named the BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

March-20-05 Rutgers Survives Ninth-Inning Scare to Sweep Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Leading 7-3 heading into the ninth, Rutgers survived a late Minnesota rally and held on for a 7-6 win, sweeping three games from the defending Big Ten Champions. Johnny Defendis (Staten Island, NY) led RU offensively with four hits, two runs and an RBI, finishing the weekend 10-for-21. Sophomore Steve Holt (Toms River, NJ) picked up his first collegiate victory in his first collegiate start, allowing two runs in 5.1 strong innings before Ryan Bradley (Overland Park, KS) preserved the win by recording the final three outs. With the win, RU is now 9-7, while UM falls to 4-10.

March-20-05 No. 9/10 Rutgers Rolls Past Hartford in NCAA First Round 62-37
STORRS, CT – The No. 9/10 Rutgers women’s basketball team (26-6, 14-2 BIG EAST) used 22 points from senior All-American Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) to defeat Hartford (22-9, 13-5 America East) 62-37 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament March 20 in Storrs, CT.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Rutgers University softball team (0-16) fell to the University of Toledo (13-9) on the final day of competition at the Cavalier Classic on Sunday, March 20, by a score of 13-2.

March-19-05 No. 8 Army Tops No. 14 Rutgers in Men’s Lacrosse Action, 8-6
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Army’s Jake Couch scored three goals as eighth-ranked Army (3-1) held on for a hard-fought 8-6 victory over No. 14 Rutgers (2-2) on Saturday before 1,403 fans in Piscataway.

March-19-05 Pustay Pitches Rutgers Past Minnesota, 6-2
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Junior lefty Matt Pustay (Hamilton, NJ) retired the first 14 hitters he faced in relief, recording 15 outs, as Rutgers defeated Minnesota, 6-2, for its second-straight win in the Metrodome. Pustay, who entered the game with one out in the fourth, induced an inning-ending double play and did not allow a hit until there were two outs in the ninth to record his second win of the season. With the win, RU improves to 8-7, while Minnesota falls to 4-9.

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – Junior Kelly Harrigan (Bristol, CT) finished sixth in the 200 backstroke at the 2005 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, with concluded on Saturday, March 19, at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Rutgers University softball team (0-15) dropped two games on day two of the Cavalier Classic on Saturday, March 19, falling to host Virginia by a score of 12-3 and Bowling Green 6-1.

March-19-05 Rutgers Gymnastics Takes Second at Penn State Quad Meet
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – The Rutgers University gymnastics team (16-9, 2-6 EAGL) scored a season-high 193.100 points to finish second at the Penn State quad meet on Saturday, March 19, in University Park, PA. Also competing at the meet was Temple and William and Mary.
