Redshirt junior goalkeeper
Casey Murphy was named the United Soccer Coaches National Women's DI Player of the Week, as well as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
Rookie midfielder
Alexa Ferreira earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades.

Â
Murphy remained dominant in net, recording 10 saves and allowing zero goals in 200:00 minutes. In the ranked matchup with the Hoyas, the goalie posted a season-high six saves, two shy of her career best, to seal a 0-0 double overtime draw. Murphy's sixth save came in the 106th minute to close the door on GU.
Â
A 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy candidate, Murphy is tied for first in the NCAA with a 0.00 GAA on the year and ranks second with seven shutouts, as Rutgers is one of only two women's Division I teams in the nation to have not let up a goal this season.
Â
The national honor marks Murphy's second of her career, after earning the accolade for the first time in 2015. The conference recognition marks Murphy's second Big Ten weekly honor of the season and eighth of her career.

Â
Ferreira was also recognized for her outing, in which she posted the first goal and assist of her career off the bench at George Mason. After a scoreless first half, Ferreira ignited the Scarlet Knight offense with a goal in the 48th minute. She then went on to add an assist in the 80th minute to help Rutgers seal the 2-0 shutout of the Patriots.
Â
As a freshman, Ferreira has started five of seven contests, including a start against the Hoyas. The honor marks the rookie's first conference accolade of her career.
Â
The Scarlet Knights return to action on Sunday, Sept. 17 for their Big Ten opener with Maryland. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m. ET at Yurcak Field.
