PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers wrestling announced it has sold 1,200 season tickets for its upcoming 2017-18 home campaign. Now, as part of the Scarlet Knights' $100,000 season ticket challenge, for every season ticket sold beyond 1,200, an anonymous donor will donate $125 per season ticket sold until the goal of 2,000 season packages sold is reached.
All money generated from the initiative will go towards the naming of a Rutgers wrestling assistant coach's office at the new RWJBarnabas Health Athletic Performance Center in memory of the late Sam Cali, a former Rutgers wrestler who passed away last summer.
"Now that we reached 1,200 season tickets, we're really excited to hit our final goal of 2,000 season tickets sold," said head coach Scott Goodale. "Having this many season ticket holders not only benefits our extremely intense home-match atmosphere, but it also allows us to honor Sam and his family with the donor match initiative. Please help us remember Sam by purchasing season tickets if you have not done so already."
The Scarlet Knights' 2017-18 historic home slate features some of the top programs in the nation, as Big Ten Conference foes Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State and reigning national champion Penn State are all set to compete at the RAC this season. North Carolina and Hofstra also visit the RAC to round out RU's home schedule. All home dates and times are subject to change.
In total, Rutgers' six home opponents produced 41 NCAA qualifiers, 21 All-Americans, 10 championship finalists and seven NCAA individual champions last season.
Prior to its six home matches at the RAC, Rutgers hosts Maryland at Yankee Stadium as part of the "Big Ten Battle in the Bronx," a football and wrestling doubleheader between the two schools on Nov. 4. Tickets for both contests can be purchased through the Rutgers Athletics ticket office by calling 1-866-445-GORU (4678).
Season ticket pricing, along with group ticket and single-match ticket information, can be found at the bottom of this release. As a Priority Point sport, a tax-deductible Rutgers Scholarship Fund seat gift will be included in the total season ticket price.
Each wrestling season ticket purchased for the 2017-2018 season and future seasons will factor into the current season tickets purchased, consecutive years of purchase, and loyalty points categories of Priority Points.
Priority Points are what Rutgers Athletics uses to determine seating and parking at football, men's and women's basketball and wrestling. Priority Points are also used for away game and postseason tickets. For more information on Priority Points, please call 1-866-445-GORU.
