Fabugais-Inaba Wins Two Events in Swim & Dive Opener

Sophomore claims first in 1,650- and 200-yard freestyle races
FORT MYERS, Fla. (Oct. 6, 2017) – Rutgers swimming and diving launched the 2017-18 season with three event victories on Day 1 of a dual meet at Florida Gulf Coast on Friday evening. The Scarlet Knights trail 101-66 heading into the Saturday morning session to close out the dual.
Sophomore Alexandra Fabugais-Inaba won a pair of races on Friday, claiming the first Rutgers event win of the new season by outlasting a pool of six in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:33.98, dropping nearly 10 seconds off her best time in the mile from her rookie season. She ensued to best 11 other swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle, touching first in 1:52.35. She was RU's fastest 200 Freestyle last season in 1:48.06.
Rutgers' top butterflyer from one year ago, junior Francesca Stoppa, got off to a quick start in Florida. The Italian native stopped the clock at 2:01.48 to win the 200-yard butterfly, with teammate and countrywoman Federica Greco coming in third at 2:02.74.
Sophomore Clare Lawlor missed an event victory by a blink of an eye as she placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.64 seconds, merely two-hundredths of a tick behind FGCU's Gracie Redding. Lawlor was Rutgers' top sprint freestyler in her rookie season, turning in a 22.63-second NCAA "B" cut time at the 2017 Big Ten Championships.
Junior Vera Koprivova kicked off her season with a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in at 58.58. Senior captain Larissa Neilan also took a second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.48.
The second half of the dual meet with the Eagles begins on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m.
