  • NOTRE DAME, IN - The 20th-ranked Rutgers women’s lacrosse team (12-4, 3-3 BIG EAST) fell to conference rival No. 18 Notre Dame (7-7, 4-2 BIG EAST), 13-6, on Sunday afternoon at Moose Krause Stadium.

Junior Cali Wojdyla (Liverpool, NY) opened the scoring with an assist from junior Cristina Curiale (Summit, NJ), but Notre Dame’s Danielle Shearer tied the score with a free-position goal. Shearer scored two more goals to put the Irish up, 3-1, before RU senior Kate Slotman (Moorestown, NJ) scored her first of three goals, with help from senior Melissa Mosey (Skaneateles, NY). After Shearer scored her fourth goal of the game, Slotman and Mosey each scored one goal to tie the score at 4-4 with nine minutes to play in the first half. The Irish, though, took a 6-4 lead at the break after goals from Shearer and Kelly McCardell.

ND’s Angela Dixon, who dished out three assists in the first half, scored the opening goal of the half, increasing the Irish lead to three (7-4). Slotman and Wojdyla each scored again, bringing RU within one (7-6), but the Irish went on to score six more goals in the second half, earning the conference win and third-place in the BIG EAST with the 13-6 win.

Sophomore Lyndsey Feldman (Ft. Myers, FL) made nine saves on the day for the Scarlet Knights, while Jen White made nine saves for the Irish.

RU has concluded its regular-season play with a 12-4 record, an impressive turnaround from the 2002 season’s 7-9 final record.
