PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Rutgers women’s lacrosse team (6-2) edged the Quakers of the University of Pennsylvania (2-7), 9-8, on Tuesday night at Franklin Field.

Senior Jessica Apel (Bridgewater, NJ) scored four goals in the first half, while sophomore Lisa Savage (Cortlandt Manor, NY) added one goal to give the Knights a 5-2 advantage at the half. Senior Melissa Mosey (Skaneateles, NY) scored early in the second half, but Penn returned the scoring in the second half, to tie the score, 6-6. Senior Claire Grooms (Camillus, NY) and Savage each added a goal to keep RU ahead, but the Quakers kept within one. Junior Cristina Curiale (Summit, NJ) scored the
game-winning goal with four and a half minutes remaining, giving the Scarlet Knights the 9-8 non-conference win.

The Quakers were led in scoring by Alison Polk-Williams who scored tow goals and dished out two assists. Lindsey Cassidy and Crissy Book also each scored two goals for Penn.

RU will return to conference action on Saturday, April 5, when the Knights head to No. 8 Syracuse for a 4 p.m. draw.
