  • POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Rutgers women’s lacrosse team (5-1) extended its win streak to five with a 17-3 defeat of Marist College (2-4) Wednesday night, March 26, on a rain-soaked Leonidoff Field.

Rutgers continued its balanced scoring with five Scarlet Knights scoring two goals. Senior defenders Jessica Apel (Bridgewater, NJ) and Kristin Checksfield (Collingswood, NJ) led the group of multiple scorers with two goals apiece. Also netting two goals were juniors Cali Wojdyla (Liverpool, NY) and Maggie Bopp (Lindenhurst, NY) and, in her first appearance this season, rookie Patra Krinis (Somerville, NJ).

The defense also continued its stellar play, not allowing the Red Foxes to score until the second half as the Scarlet Knights led 12-0 at the half. Sophomore goalie Lyndsey Feldman (Ft. Myers, FL) made four saves before rookie Jaclyn Greenbaum (Ellicott City, MD) replaced her in the cage and made two saves. Seniors Kate Slotman (Moorestown, NJ) and Melissa Mosey (Skaneateles, NY) ran the defense from outside the goal, each causing two turnovers and collecting five ground balls.

Marist was led in scoring by sophomore Brandi Petersen, who scored two of the Red Foxes’ three goals. Lauren Serge notched the other goal for the Foxes, while senior Molly Hanley dished out the only Marist assist. In goal for MC was sophomore Heather Ripp, who made 11 saves after facing 34 shots by the Scarlet Knights.

The Scarlet Knights will host BIG EAST leader, Georgetown, on Sunday, March 30. The Knights and the fourth-ranked Hoyas (5-1) will take the first draw at noon on Yurcak Field.
