  • PISCATAWAY, NJ - Despite four goals for both junior midfielder Katie Batiuk (Jackson, NJ) and freshman midfielder Michelle Poole (Hackettstown, NJ), the Rutgers University women’s lacrosse team saw a four-goal halftime lead erased as Temple earned an 11-10 victory on Friday evening at Yurcak Field.

Batiuk tallied seven first half points and four goals by Poole and one more from freshman attacker Nina Frankoski (Maplewood, NJ) gave Rutgers a 9-5 advantage going into the halftime.

Temple responded out of the break and scored five unanswered goals to take a 10-9 lead with 12 minutes remaining. Rutgers sophomore attacker Kate Shomo (Medford Lakes, NJ) scored an equalizing goal for the Scarlet Knights at the 6:47 mark to knot the game at 10-10. However, a goal by Temple’s Nicole Cataldo at the 6:01 mark proved to be the game-winner as the Owls escaped with an 11-10 victory.

Rutgers freshman goalie Sandra Abel (Monrovia, MD) stopped nine shots; however, it was not enough as her counterpart, Caitlin Gregory, stopped seven shots for Temple and came away with the win.

The loss dropped the Scarlet Knights to 5-5 on the season. They are also 0-2 in BIG EAST Conference play.

With the win, Temple improved its record to 4-4 on the year.

The Scarlet Knights will be back in action on Saturday, April 8 when they travel to Storrs, CT to take on BIG EAST Rival Connecticut at 1:00 p.m.
