  • PISCATAWAY, NJ - Sophomore Katie Batiuk (Jackson, NJ) matched her career high with six goals, capping her performance with the game-winning score to lead the Rutgers women's lacrosse team to a 10-9 come-from-behind victory over No. 19 Ohio State Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field. With the victory, RU improves to 5-8 on the season, while Ohio State falls to 5-8.

With her six goals on Sunday, Batiuk has totaled 100 career points on 75 goals and 25 assists. She becomes the 15th member of the school's 100-point club. The midfielder sits just one point behind Mary Beth Dwyer (1984-87) for 14th place on the school's all-time scoring list. With Sunday's total, Batiuk has 43 goals and 10 assists this season. Sunday marked the second time she has scored six goals in a game in her career, previously achieving the feat in RU's victory over Villanova earlier this month on April 6.

Rutgers opened an early two-goal lead with sophomore Anne Marchitello (Medford Lakes, NJ) connecting on a free-position goal and Batiuk adding her first score of the afternoon in the game's first six minutes.

The Buckeyes answered with three goals to take a 3-2 lead midway through the first half.

The Scarlet Knights stormed right back with three goals of their own to take a 5-3 lead into halftime. Batiuk opened the run with an unassisted goal. Freshman Kate Shomo (Medford Lakes, NJ) then took a feed from former Shawnee High School teammate sophomore Jamie Farewell (Medford Lakes, NJ) to put home her lone score of the afternoon. Batiuk closed the half with her third goal of the contest.

Batiuk followed a Buckeye goal to open the half with an unassisted score, opening the RU lead back to two goals at 6-4.

Ohio State used a four-goal run early in the second half to take its second lead of the afternoon at 8-6 with 16:15 remaining.

Farewell ended the OSU run with an unassisted goal to bring Rutgers back within a score at 8-7. The Buckeyes answered with an unassisted goal of their own to make it 9-7 with 6:38 to play.

The Rutgers defense held Ohio State without a goal for the rest of the match and the offense scored the final three goals of the game to take the 10-9 come-from-behind victory.

Batiuk converted a free-position shot with five minutes remaining. Farewell then caused a Buckeye turnover around the Ohio State goal and picked up the ground ball, putting home the tying score with four minutes to play. With momentum clearly on the Scarlet Knights' side, Batiuk capped her six-goal performance with the game-winning free-position goal with 1:30 remaining in the contest. It marked her second game-winning goal of the season.

Rutgers outshot Ohio State, 24-20, holding a 17-16 edge in ground balls.

Rutgers senior goalie Lyndsey Feldman (Ft. Myers, FL) and Ohio State goalie Kim Hastings each had eight saves.

The Buckeyes were dealt a major blow after defensive stalwarts Regina Oliver and Brandie Williams were each issued their second yellow card and forced to leave the match in the second half. The pair entered the week as the top two in the nation in caused turnovers and were each in the top-10 in the country in ground balls. The Scarlet Knights took care of the ball throughout the contest, holding the pair to just two caused turnovers and two ground balls combined.

The Scarlet Knights will hit the road for a pair of games in the coming week at Saint Joseph's on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and at Cornell on Sunday at 1 p.m
