  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – Despite out-shooting No. 10 Syracuse, 36-25, the Rutgers women’s lacrosse team could not solve SU goalkeeper Jennifer Kasel, who made 23 saves on the day to lead the Orangewomen to a 15-5 victory over the Scarlet Knights at Yurcak Field. With the loss, RU drops to 4-5 on the season and 0-3 in the BIG EAST.

    Syracuse’s Leigh-Ann Zimmer opened the game with an unassisted goal just over four minutes into the contest but Rutgers responded with a pair of goals in a span of 1:29. Senior Cali Wojdyla (Liverpool, NY) took a Lisa Savage (Cortlandt Manor, NY) pass and put it past Kasel for the Scarlet Knights’ first score with 21:45 remaining in the opening stanza. Wojdyla then assisted a goal by freshman Anne Marchitello (Medford Lakes, NJ) at the 20:16 mark of the first half.

    Facing a 2-1 deficit, Syracuse gained control of the game, scoring the final eight goals of the half and the next 11 scores overall to open a commanding 12-2 lead on the Scarlet Knights.

    Senior co-captain Cristina Curiale (Summit, NJ) put an end to Syracuse’s run with an unassisted goal with 21:37 remaining in the second half. The Orangewomen followed by scoring the game’s next three goals to open their biggest lead of the game at 15-3.

    Sophomore midfielder Emily Widrick (Carthage, NY) scored the final two goals of the contest, hitting the back of the net with her final goal with 58 seconds left in the contest to make the score 15-5.

    Junior Lyndsey Feldman (Ft. Myers, FL) split time in goal with sophomore Jaclyn Greenbaum (Ellicott City, MD) for the Scarlet Knights. Feldman played the majority of the contest, finishing with three saves on 22 shots faced, allowing 12 goals.

    Junior co-captain Catherine Seals (Long Valley, NJ) contributed defensively for the Scarlet Knights with a game-high four caused turnovers and five ground balls.

    Rutgers begins a four-game road trip against No. 14 Yale on Wednesday, April 7, in New Haven, CT, at 3 p.m..
