PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 16, 2014) – Rutgers women’s lacrosse assistant coach Katie Hertsch has been selected to the 38-player roster for the 2014-15 U.S. Women’s National Team, US Lacrosse announced.
“I’m excited to continue playing for Team USA,” said Hertsch. “It’s an amazing opportunity to play with the best talent in the country and to wear the U.S. jersey. I’m grateful to pursue another year with the U.S. program.”
Players were selected from an 81-player invite-only tryout pool, and were evaluated by the U.S. Women’s National Team coaching staff, led by Georgetown head coach Ricky Fried, as well as several top-level college coaches.
Hertsch, as well as recent graduate Chelsea Intrabartola (Commack, N.Y.), participated in the three-day tryout from June 13-15 in Washington, D.C.
The team will train and compete in several exhibition events leading up to the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s World Cup in Surrey, England. Ultimately, 18 players will represent the U.S. as the team goes for a third consecutive and eighth overall world title.
A 2011 graduate of Hofstra and defensive standout for the Pride, Hertsch completed her first season on the Rutgers coaching staff. Hertsch has been a member of the U.S. National Team since 2010 and helped lead the country to a gold medal in the FIL World Cup in Oshawa, Canada in 2013.
