  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 12, 2014) – Rutgers has been tabbed as the host site for the 2015 Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, the league announced Thursday. The 2015 campaign marks RU’s inaugural season in the Big Ten, as well as the first year of women’s lacrosse for the conference.

RU will host the six-team tournament at High Point Solutions Stadium, the Scarlet Knights’ 52,454-seat facility.

"We could not be more excited to be part of Big Ten history,” said head coach Laura Brand-Sias. “It is such an honor to host the inaugural women's lacrosse championship at High Point Solutions Stadium. It promises to be a top notch, best-in-class event."

RU joins Maryland, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State and Penn State in forming one of the premier lacrosse conferences in the NCAA. Big Ten women’s lacrosse will feature teams that have won 24 national championships and 20 of the 33 NCAA championships, including nine of the last 10.

The 2015 tournament will take place from April 30-May 3 and will include all six conference programs, with two quarterfinal matches on Thursday, April 30. The top two seeds will receive byes to the semifinals on Friday, May 1, followed by the championship match on Sunday, May 3.

Rutgers concluded the 2014 campaign with a 9-9 overall record and claimed the No. 4 seed to the BIG EAST Tournament to mark the squad’s first postseason appearance since 2008. For the first time in program history the Scarlet Knights called HPSS home, playing six home contests at the stadium last season.

Several Scarlet Knights earned postseason honors, led by defender Chelsea Intrabartola (Commack, N.Y.) and midfielder Lauren Sbrilli (Martinsville, N.J.), who were both named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) 2014 All-Mid Atlantic Second Team.
