PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 15, 2014) – Redshirt junior midfielder Lauren Sbrilli (Martinsville, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced Tuesday. The distinction is her second of the season, after also earning a nod to the honor roll on March 25.
Sbrilli helped lead Rutgers to a 1-1 week in BIG EAST action, after recording a combined seven points against Marquette and Georgetown.
On April 11, the midfielder netted two goals on three shots in RU’s first league win, a 12-6 defeat of the Golden Eagles at the RU Turf Field. She then exploded for a career-high five goals against Georgetown on April 13 at High Point Solutions Stadium, and added two draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball.
This season, Sbrilli leads RU in both points (27) and goals (23). In 13 games, the New Jersey native has notched a point in all but two contests and has also tallied four hat tricks and six multi-goal games.
RU has earned six weekly honors this season. Last week, redshirt sophomore midfielder Kristin Kocher (Medford, N.J.) was also named to the honor roll. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Amanda Currell (Moorestown, N.J.) was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week on both Feb. 25 and March 4, while also earning a nod to the Weekly Honor Roll on March 18.
Rutgers hits the road on Thursday, April 17 as the squad takes on Cincinnati at 6 p.m. The Scarlet Knights close out their regular season road slate on Saturday, April 19 at Louisville.
