  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 28, 2013) – Rutgers women’s lacrosse will participate in four days of competition as part of the 2013 fall schedule, announced head coach Laura Brand-Sias.

The Scarlet Knights will kick off the fall season on Oct. 5, as they host both Lehigh and LaSalle at the F3 Turf. Brand-Sias will then lead her squad down to Baltimore, Md., the following day to play John Hopkins, George Mason and Louisville.

RU returns to Maryland the following week to square off against host Maryland, as well as Loyola and San Diego State University. The Scarlet Knights close out the fall slate against Monmouth and Lafayette at home on Oct. 18.

Rutgers returns 22 letterwinners from a season ago, including leading scorer Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J.). Martinelli, an ALL-BIG EAST Second Team selection, paced RU with a team-best 45 points on 35 goals and 10 assists. The senior ranked eighth in the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.1) and third in the league in free position goals per game (0.76).

Redshirt junior Hollie DiMuro (West Babylon, N.Y.) and senior Chelsea Intrabartola (Commack, N.Y.) also return “To the Banks” after being named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) All-Mid-Atlantic regional teams. DiMuro received first team accolades and Intrabartola was named to the second team.

RU also returns midfielders Lauren Sbrilli (Martinsville, N.J.) and Kristin Kocher (Medford, N.J.), who received medical redshirts last season.

The Scarlet Knights concluded the 2013 season with an overall record of 9-8. RU managed its best start in school history with a 7-1 nonconference record in the first half of the season. Rutgers’ defense was an integral part of the squad’s success, as it ranked sixth in the nation in scoring-defense, allowing just 7.76 goals per game.
