  • Piscataway, N.J. (March 12, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s lacrosse team – ranked 19th in this week’s deBeer media poll – faces Hofstra on Wednesday, March 13 at the RU Turf Field at the Stadium Complex. Game time is set for 3 p.m.

Rutgers (5-1) was last in action on Saturday, March 9, coming up with a 7-4 win at Delaware. Midfielders Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J) and Chrissy Schreiber (East Meadow, N.Y.) paced the Scarlet Knights with two goals each. Senior goalie Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) totaled five saves in the match.

Kalata was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after allowing just nine total goals through two games. The goalie leads a RU defense that ranks No. 2 in the NCAA in goals allowed (5.5).

Martinelli currently paces the Scarlet Knights in total points, goals and assists on the season. She has tallied 19 points on 14 goals and five assists through six games. Martinelli has also scored multiple goals in all but one of her games this season.

Rutgers holds a 20-9 record in the all-time series against Hofstra. The two teams last met March 10, 2012 at James M. Shuart Stadium. Rutgers won that game 15-7 as Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) scored two goals and dished out two assists.

Hofstra (4-2) is coming off a 9-7 loss to Yale last Saturday. Six different Pride members tallied goals in the loss. Sophomore attack Brittain Altomare leads the team with 25 points on 12 goals and 13 assists.

In the cage for Hofstra will be sophomore Kelsey Gregerson, who has stopped 40 shots on the season, allowing 10.33 goals per game. Head Coach Shannon Smith – a three-time All-American from Northwestern – is in her first season with the Pride.
