Newark, Del. (March 8, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s lacrosse team travels to Newark, Del., for a 3 p.m. matchup at Delaware this Saturday, March 9 at Delaware Stadium.
Rutgers (4-1) was last in action on Wednesday, Mar. 9, coming up with a 6-5 win over No. 20 Penn at the RU Turf Field. Junior midfielder Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J) paced the Scarlet Knights with two goals and one assist. Junior attacker Megan Clements (Pennington, N.J) also tacked on two goals for the Scarlet Knights in the winning effort. Senior goalie Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) totaled five saves in the match.
Martinelli currently leads the Scarlet Knights in total points, goals and assists on the season. She has tallied 17 points, 12 goals and five assists so far this season. Martinelli has also scored multiple goals in all but one of her games this season. Clements is second on the team with eight goals this season and Kalata boasts a .518 save percentage on the season.
Rutgers holds a 9-13 record in the all-time series against Delaware. The two teams last met March 5, 2011 at the RU Turf Field. Rutgers won that game 13-5. Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) scored two goals in the matchup.
Delaware (3-2) is coming off a 17-7 win against Lehigh this past Tuesday. Four different Blue Hens tallied hat tricks in the win. Of the four, both sophomore Allison Hahn and junior Chelsea Fay recorded five goals each. Sophomore midfielder Caitlin McCartney currently paces the Blue Hens with 15 goals and 17 points this season.
In the cage for Delaware will be sophomore Alex Zaugra, who has stopped 32 shots on the season, allowing 9.67 goals per game. Head Coach Kateri Linville is in her third season with the Blue Hens.
