Piscataway, N.J. (March 5, 2013) - The Rutgers women’s lacrosse team hosts No. 20 Penn on Wednesday, March 6 on the RU Turf Field at the Stadium Complex. Game time is set for 3 p.m..
The Scarlet Knights (3-1) are coming off an 11-8 win at Monmouth last Saturday. The victory marked Coach Laura Brand-Sias’ 100th career win. Junior attack Megan Clements (Pennington, N.J.) and redshirt junior midfielder Amanda Trendell (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) reached career-high marks, scoring four goals apiece in the match. In the net, Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) notched five saves.
Nationally, the Rutgers defense ranks fifth overall, allowing just 6.0 goals per game. Kalata sits sixth with a 0.522 save percentage.
Offensively, Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J.) paces RU with 14 points on 10 goals and four assists. Trendell – who was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday – sits second with eight points.
Rutgers holds an 8-5 advantage in the all-times series against Penn. The two teams last met March 7, 2012, where the Scarlet Knights fell 15-7 on the road.
The Quakers’ (0-2) last time out resulted in an 11-5 loss to No. 3 North Carolina. Prior to this season, Penn had not started 0-2 since the 1999 season.
Penn is led by senior Maddie Poplawski with three goals and four points this season. Between the pipes will be Lucy Ferguson, who owns an 11.02 GAA with nine saves.
