Head coach Laura Brand-Sias recorded her 100th career win.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 2, 2013) – Rutgers women’s lacrosse head coach Laura Brand-Sias recorded her 100th career win as the Scarlet Knights took down Monmouth, 11-8, Saturday afternoon at Kessler Field.

The Scarlet Knights (3-1) were led by career-high days from junior attack Megan Clements (Pennington, N.J.) and redshirt junior Amanda Trendell (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), who each scored four goals apiece. Trendell added an assist for a five-point showing. Clements posted all four scores during a 5-1 run in the second half to give RU a lead it would not relinquish.

Brand-Sias now owns a 100-75 record in her 11th season with the Scarlet Knights and 12th overall.

Senior captain Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) made five saves in the effort to move to 3-1 on the season. Monmouth (0-4) was paced by Kaleigh Gibbons with three goals and two assists.

Rutgers rattled off three-straight scores over the first 12:21 to take a 3-0 lead. Junior midfield Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J.) started the scoring, Freshman Halley Barnes (Garnet Valley, Pa.) notched the second goal and Trendell ended the run with a tally at the 17:39 mark.

MU would crawl back with three-straight scores of their own, as Allison Stathius posted a free position goal to knot the game at 3-3.

Trendell notched a free position score of her own before Monmouth scored a FPG right before the half. The two squads entered the break tied at 4-4.

The Hawks struck first to open the second half before the Scarlet Knights scored five of the next six goals. Clements posted four-straight over the run to give RU a 9-6 advantage. MU’s Gibbons and Trendell would trade goals over the final eight minutes to account for the final score.

The Scarlet Knights return to the RU Turf Field at the Stadium Complex on Wednesday, March 5 to face No. 18 Penn. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
