Piscataway, N.J. (February 21, 2013) –Rutgers women’s lacrosse returns home for a 1 p.m. matchup with Fairfield this Saturday, Feb. 23 at the RU Turf Field inside the Stadium Complex.
After dominating Manhattan in its season opener, Rutgers came up just short at Temple on Wednesday, 8-7. Junior midfielder Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J) and senior co-captain Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) each tallied two goals and one assist in the loss. Senior goalie Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) grabbed 10 saves in the cage.
Martinelli, who came into the season with 11 career points, has already matched that total through two games this season to pace RU. Kalata owns a 7.33 GAA with 13 saves.
Rutgers holds a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series against Fairfield. The two teams met for the first time on March 24, 2012 in Fairfield, Conn. The Scarlet Knights edged the Stags 11-10 in double overtime as Anderson tallied four goals in the effort.
Fairfield (1-1) is coming off an 8-7 overtime loss to Hofstra on Wednesday. Senior midfielder Chloe Mangan and junior Melanie Raso paced the Stags with two goals apiece. Raso and junior Addie Reilly pace the team with five goals each this season. Between the pipes for Fairfield will be senior Katie Keenan, who stopped eight shots on Wednesday.
