PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 24, 2012) – Highlighted by senior midfielder Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) on the first team, four Rutgers women’s lacrosse standouts have been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Mid-Atlantic regional teams, the organization announced Thursday. It marks the third-straight season the Scarlet Knights have placed four-plus athletes on the all-region squad.

Selected to the All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team were senior defenseman Rebecca Alley (Tewksbury, N.J.), junior midfielder Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) and junior goalie Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.). Head coach Laura Brand-Sias now has mentored 28 all-region selections in her tenure at Rutgers.

An All-BIG EAST First Team honoree, Steinberg paced the Scarlet Knights with 48 points on 32 goals and 16 assists. The midfielder – who was named to the all-region second team last season – added 38 draw controls, 21 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. Steinberg ranked fourth in the league in free position goals per game (0.88) and eighth in points per game (3.00).

The rock of the defense, Alley controlled a team-best 48 draws this season, adding 16 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. This marks the second-straight IWLCA honor for Alley.

Anderson scored 41 goals to lead the team, adding five assists for 46 points en route to an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection. The junior added 19 ground balls in 16 starts. Anderson ranked sixth in the league in goals per game (2.56) and 10th overall in points per game (2.88). She upped her play during conference action, finishing third with 3.12 goals per game. This is the first IWLCA honor for the junior.

Named to the all-region team for the third-straight season, Kalata started all 16 games this season, holding a 9.74 goals against average with 116 saves and a .446 save percentage. The netminder ranked second in the league in goals against average, fourth in ground balls (39) and fifth in save percentage.

These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on May 27. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 16, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King Prussia, Pa.
