PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 2, 2012) – Rutgers women’s lacrosse senior midfielder Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, while junior midfielder Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the conference announced on Wednesday.

“I’m very thankful for everything my teammates have done for me, and they are a big part of this award,” said Steinberg. “I couldn’t have asked for a better season with this team. I also owe a lot to Coach (Brand-Sias) and would like to thank her as well. I’m honored to be recognized.”

“I am very honored to receive this award,” said Anderson. “My teammates have contributed so much in order for me to be successful this season, and I’m extremely thankful for their support.”

Steinberg paced the squad with 48 points on 32 goals and 16 assists. The midfielder – who was a unanimous preseason All-BIG EAST selection – added 38 draw controls, 21 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. Steinberg ranked fourth in the league in free position goals per game (0.88) and eighth in points per game (3.00).

Anderson scored 41 goals to lead the team, adding five assists for 46 points. The junior added 19 ground balls in 16 starts. Anderson ranked sixth in the league in goals per game (2.56) and 10th overall in points per game (2.88). She upped her play during conference action, finishing third with 3.12 goals per game.

The All-BIG EAST selections marked the 28th and 29th Scarlet Knights to receive the honor under head coach Laura Brand-Sias. Steinberg becomes the first All-BIG EAST First Team member since Brooke Cantwell in 2010.
